Corrections

A useful publication keeps its record accurate.

At a glance

  • Identify the page and passage.
  • Explain the issue with primary evidence.
  • Distinguish an error from a later change.

What to include

Identify the exact page, the passage or data point, the issue and a primary source that supports your proposed correction. Explain whether the issue concerns a factual error, a broken reference or a changed program condition.

How changes are represented

Substantive changes should update the affected material and its modification date. A source access note is not proof of a factual error. An effective date, event date and publication date must remain distinct.

Responsible reporting

Do not include credentials, private borrower records or another person’s sensitive information. Privacy, security and licensing have separate routes. Specific evidence helps the corrections desk evaluate a report; this page does not promise a universal response deadline.

Keep the correction in context

An original factual error and a policy change after publication are different. Identify the relevant date and record so the desk can determine the right treatment. A visible correction note may be needed for a substantive error; a routine design edit does not create a reporting event.

Cached previews and search results can continue to show older text after the journal page changes. The current page is the reference for the corrected wording. We aim to preserve useful URLs while updating the record.
