Discover 30 Miami places with maps, visitor links and practical tips. Plan beach days, free outings, family activities, nightlife and a three-day itinerary.

South Beach coastline, South Pointe Park and waterfront buildings in Miami Beach

The best things to do in Miami depend on the day you want: a beach morning, a cultural afternoon, a family outing or a properly planned night out. This guide brings together 30 places across Greater Miami and Miami Beach, with official visitor links, map anchors and practical choices. Start with your neighborhood and interests, then add one nearby stop instead of trying to cross the city for every attraction.

Your first Miami visit

Beachfront views, architecture, Cuban-American culture and street art. Spread these across more than one day.

Free things to do

Free gallery entry and public spaces, plus outdoor music on scheduled dates. Transport and extras still count.

A day with the family

Choose a substantial anchor activity, then leave room for lunch, breaks and the weather.

South Beach

South Pointe Park

Beaches & waterfront · Free to explore

Start at the southern tip of Miami Beach for a waterfront promenade, beach access and views across Government Cut. This is an easy introduction to South Beach without committing to a beach club or a long excursion. The playground makes it a useful stop for families, while the waterside walk works well before a dinner reservation.

Make time. 45–90 minutes

Before you go. Visit early or near the end of the afternoon, within posted park hours. Parking is paid; free park access does not mean a free car space. Keep children close beside the waterfront.

1 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

South Beach

Lummus Park & South Beach

Beaches & waterfront · Free to explore

Lummus Park connects the Atlantic beach with the most recognizable stretch of Ocean Drive. Walk the palm-lined paths, stop for a beach session, then look back toward the Art Deco facades. It suits visitors who want the classic Miami Beach setting in a short, walkable outing rather than spending the day moving between districts.

Make time. 1–3 hours

Before you go. Bring water and sun protection, use the posted beach access points and follow lifeguard flags. Make an outdoor visit a morning plan rather than your only option for a stormy afternoon.

Ocean Drive, between 5th Street and 14th Place, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Art Deco buildings along Ocean Drive in Miami Beach

South Beach

Art Deco Historic District

Art & architecture · Free walk; paid tours

Ocean Drive and the surrounding streets offer a compact architecture walk through Miami Beach's Art Deco heritage. The Miami Design Preservation League provides guided tours that explain the details visitors often miss: rounded corners, decorative geometry and the relationship between buildings and the coastal setting. A self-directed exterior walk is a different experience from a ticketed tour.

Make time. 60–120 minutes

Before you go. Use the Welcome Center as your starting point and confirm the tour meeting time before paying. Looking at building exteriors is free; the official guided and audio tours have their own admission terms.

Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Wynwood

Wynwood Walls

Art & architecture · Ticketed attraction

Wynwood Walls is a curated outdoor street-art destination with murals, sculpture and gallery spaces. It gives a first-time visitor an organized starting point before exploring the surrounding neighborhood. The enclosed attraction and the public streets of Wynwood are separate: a neighborhood mural walk does not replace the ticketed Walls experience.

Make time. 60–90 minutes

Before you go. Book through the official ticket page, check the weather and leave time for the surrounding streets. Murals change; photographs taken on previous visits do not guarantee the same artwork is currently on display.

2516 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33127

Design District

Miami Design District

Art & architecture · Free to explore

The Design District combines public art, distinctive architecture, fashion boutiques and dining. Start around Palm Court and build a walk from the district's official public-art directory. It is a strong choice for a polished afternoon even if shopping is not your goal, because the outdoor installations and streetscape are part of the experience.

Make time. 1–3 hours

Before you go. Keep the walk compact, then pair it with ICA Miami or a restaurant booking. Public-space access is free; purchases, dining and special exhibitions may cost extra.

Palm Court, 140 NE 39th Street, Miami, FL 33137

Design District

Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami

Museums & culture · Free admission

ICA Miami is a useful cultural anchor for a Design District afternoon, with contemporary art exhibitions and a sculpture garden. Its free admission makes it especially relevant when looking for free things to do in Miami that go beyond a beach walk. Choose the current exhibition for your interests rather than assuming every gallery suits every age group.

Make time. 60–90 minutes

Before you go. Check opening days and current visitor arrangements before you arrive. Galleries provide an indoor option, but the sculpture garden is an outdoor component.

61 NE 41st Street, Miami, FL 33137

Downtown Miami

Pérez Art Museum Miami

Museums & culture · Ticketed attraction

PAMM combines modern and contemporary art with architecture overlooking Biscayne Bay. The galleries make it an appealing rainy-day choice, while the terrace and surrounding park give a visit a waterfront dimension when the weather clears. It is next to Frost Science, so visitors can choose between an art-focused afternoon and a family science day without crossing the city.

Make time. 1.5–2.5 hours

Before you go. Confirm opening days and ticket availability. Check the official page for current free-admission windows and eligibility rather than assuming a promotion applies to your visit.

1103 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132

Downtown Miami

Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science

Museums & culture · Ticketed attraction

Frost Science brings museum exhibitions, an aquarium and a planetarium into one visit. It is a practical choice for things to do in Miami with kids, particularly when you need a substantial daytime activity instead of several short stops. The museum's location beside PAMM allows adults with different interests to plan around the same waterfront district.

Make time. 2–4 hours

Before you go. Select the exact visit date when checking ticket prices. The Explorer ticket includes one planetarium show subject to availability; show reservations are arranged onsite, so make that booking early in your visit.

1101 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132

Historic Vizcaya house and formal gardens

Coconut Grove

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

Gardens & historic estates · Ticketed attraction

Vizcaya offers a historic waterfront house and formal gardens in the northern Coconut Grove area. It suits travelers interested in design, interiors and landscape rather than a fast checklist of attractions. The indoor rooms and garden paths deserve separate time; the estate is a destination to explore slowly, not just a photograph stop on the way somewhere else.

Make time. 2–3 hours

Before you go. Reserve admission and check closures before traveling. Plan the gardens for tolerable heat, and confirm photography rules if you intend anything beyond ordinary personal holiday pictures.

3251 South Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33129

Little Havana

Calle Ocho & Little Havana

Neighborhood walks · Free to explore

Little Havana is best approached as a neighborhood walk: coffee counters, cultural landmarks and the stretch of Calle Ocho around Domino Park. Stop to notice the Walk of Fame and the daily life of the area, then choose a meal or a music venue. A guided food tour can add context, but wandering public streets does not require buying a package.

Make time. 1.5–3 hours

Before you go. Use Domino Park as a map anchor and treat the players as residents, not performers. Games are generally for members. Ask before photographing people and budget separately for food, tours and purchases.

Domino Park, 801 SW 15th Avenue, Miami, FL 33135

Little Havana

Ball & Chain

Music & evenings · Event terms vary

Ball & Chain is a live-music and Cuban dining venue on Calle Ocho. It offers a different kind of Miami evening from a large nightclub: choose a performance or dance program, then build dinner around it. The official schedule is the useful starting point, because the experience depends on the event and time of day you select.

Make time. 1–3 hours

Before you go. Check the current music calendar, reservation terms and entry requirements for your chosen event. Do not assume every performance, lesson or evening has the same price or age policy.

1513 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135

Downtown Miami

Adrienne Arsht Center

Music & evenings · Event ticket

The Arsht Center is a place to plan around an actual performance: theater, music, dance or family programming. It works well for a deliberate night out in Downtown Miami, with the show providing a clear anchor for dinner and transport. Choose the production first rather than arriving at the campus expecting entertainment to run continuously.

Make time. Allow time for your performance

Before you go. Check the specific hall, performance length and arrival guidance on your ticket. Leave a transfer buffer before the show and look at the official calendar for free community programs as well as paid performances.

1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132

South Beach

SoundScape Park & New World Symphony WALLCAST

Music & evenings · Free scheduled park programs

SoundScape Park hosts New World Symphony WALLCAST concerts and other scheduled outdoor programming beside the New World Center. This is an attractive free evening option when the calendar matches your trip. The appeal is the combination of music, open space and a shared public experience, rather than a guarantee that something is being screened every night.

Make time. Follow the event schedule

Before you go. Confirm the date on the official calendar and check weather-related notices. A paid concert inside the New World Center and a free outdoor WALLCAST are different attendance options.

500 17th Street, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Miami Beach

The Bass

Museums & culture · Ticketed attraction

The Bass adds contemporary art to a Miami Beach stay without a mainland transfer. Combine the museum with a short walk through Collins Park and the nearby streets rather than treating it as an all-day outing. It is particularly useful if your beach plans change and you want an indoor cultural alternative close to a South Beach hotel.

Make time. 60–120 minutes

Before you go. Check the current exhibitions, hours and admission arrangements before setting out. Outdoor public art in Collins Park and indoor gallery entry have different access conditions.

2100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

South Beach

Lincoln Road

Neighborhood walks · Free to explore

Lincoln Road is an open-air pedestrian promenade for a relaxed walk, shopping and a meal. It is easy to combine with SoundScape Park or the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, giving you several nearby options without repeatedly ordering transport. Browse the district's calendar for markets and programming, while keeping restaurant and shopping spending separate from the walk itself.

Make time. 60–120 minutes

Before you go. Use the current district map and allow for construction or temporary route changes. A pedestrian street is not an indoor rain plan, and free access does not include parking or purchases.

Lincoln Road pedestrian district, Miami Beach, FL 33139

South Beach

Miami Beach Botanical Garden

Gardens & historic estates · Free admission

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a compact green stop near the convention center, with free general entry. It works as a quieter contrast to Ocean Drive and the beach, especially when you want to slow the pace of a South Beach day. Combine it with Lincoln Road rather than driving across the city solely for a short garden visit.

Make time. 45–75 minutes

Before you go. Check opening days and event access before arrival. General entry is free; paid programs, private events and parking are separate.

2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Coral Gables & South Miami

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Gardens & historic estates · Ticketed attraction

Fairchild is a larger garden destination for tropical plants, landscape walks and seasonal programming. Give it space in your itinerary: it offers a different scale and setting from the compact Miami Beach Botanical Garden. It is a good match for visitors who would rather spend an unhurried morning outdoors than move between shopping districts and crowded beach stops.

Make time. 2–3 hours

Before you go. Choose a cooler part of the day and check the garden's calendar and visitor information. Special installations or evening events can have separate ticket and access arrangements.

10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, FL 33156

Coral Gables & South Miami

Venetian Pool

Beaches & waterfront · Ticketed attraction

Venetian Pool is a distinctive Coral Gables swimming destination fed by an underground aquifer. It is a swimming outing with admission rules, rather than a public park you can enter at any time. This can be a memorable alternative to the ocean for eligible children and adults, but it needs a separate plan around capacity, weather and operating dates.

Make time. 2–3 hours

Before you go. Children must be at least 3 years old and 38 inches tall; the city requires age verification. Check the current schedule and capacity rules, and remember this is an outdoor pool rather than a rainy-day attraction.

2701 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134

Key Biscayne beach viewed from the Cape Florida lighthouse

Key Biscayne

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Beaches & waterfront · Park entry fee

At the southern end of Key Biscayne, Bill Baggs combines a beach setting with the historic Cape Florida lighthouse and park trails. Choose it when you want a more nature-led coastal day than the Ocean Drive scene. The beach and lighthouse are related attractions, but access to a lighthouse tour depends on its own operating arrangements.

Make time. Half day

Before you go. Check park alerts, entry fees and lighthouse tour access before the drive. Allow for causeway traffic and keep your beach plan flexible around weather and swimming conditions.

1200 South Crandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne, FL 33149

Key Biscayne

Crandon Park

Beaches & waterfront · Parking and activity fees apply

Crandon Park offers a substantial beach outing on Key Biscayne, with coastal habitats and room to build a slower family day. It is an alternative to the South Beach promenade experience, not a stop to squeeze in between two mainland museums. Decide whether your day is primarily about swimming, a picnic or a nature activity before choosing the right part of the park.

Make time. Half day

Before you go. Confirm the current parking charges and availability of the specific facility you want. Pack shade, water and a realistic return-traffic buffer; rentals and organized activities can add to the day's cost.

6747 Crandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne, FL 33149

North Miami Beach

Oleta River State Park

Nature & day trips · Park entry fee

Oleta River is an urban nature escape with mangrove waterways, paddling and mountain-bike trails. It is useful for visitors who want an active morning rather than another museum or shopping stop. Select an activity suited to your ability and your group's ages; a gentle paddle and an off-road bike outing require different preparation and equipment.

Make time. Half day

Before you go. The park can close when it reaches capacity and may not reopen that day. Check park notices before traveling, and confirm equipment availability, rental charges and conditions with the operator.

3400 NE 163rd Street, North Miami Beach, FL 33160

South Miami-Dade

Deering Estate

Gardens & historic estates · Ticketed attraction

Deering Estate combines historic buildings, protected natural landscapes and a Biscayne Bay setting in Palmetto Bay. It suits an itinerary that leaves central Miami for a more spacious cultural and outdoor visit. Choose between the general estate experience and a specific guided program, because not every trail or activity is part of unrestricted general admission.

Make time. 2–3 hours

Before you go. Check the estate's current schedule, weather notices and tour inclusions. Reserve special programs separately and avoid combining this southern outing with several faraway beach stops on the same day.

16701 SW 72nd Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157

South Miami-Dade

Zoo Miami

Family attractions · Ticketed attraction

Zoo Miami is a large South Dade destination that needs its own block of time. It is a useful option for families who want an animal-focused day, but it is not a quick central-city stop. Build the visit around the zoo's map and the needs of your group rather than expecting to see everything between lunch and a beach reservation.

Make time. Half day or longer

Before you go. Check the zoo's current admission and activity information via the official tourism listing. Plan for substantial outdoor walking, hydration and breaks, and confirm accessibility arrangements before arrival.

12400 SW 152nd Street, Miami, FL 33177

Downtown Miami

Bayside Marketplace

Beaches & waterfront · Free entry; paid extras

Bayside is a waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment complex beside Downtown Miami. It is an easy place to begin a bay-facing stroll or meet a group before a booked activity. Boat excursions and the observation wheel are separate purchases; browsing the marketplace does not make those experiences part of a free visit.

Make time. 60–120 minutes

Before you go. If booking a boat trip, verify the operator, departure point, check-in time and weather cancellation terms. Leave time to find the correct dock and compare the final price rather than only the advertised starting amount.

401 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132

Downtown Miami

Bayfront Park

Beaches & waterfront · Free park access; event terms vary

Bayfront Park gives Downtown visitors a public waterfront pause close to Bayside Marketplace. Use it as a short walk or a break between nearby activities rather than expecting a full attraction complex. Its location makes it convenient for a simple city-and-bay introduction, especially if you have limited time before a dinner or performance.

Make time. 30–60 minutes

Before you go. Check the event calendar and temporary access notices. A concert or major event may change circulation, park access and the atmosphere; office hours are not the same as public park opening hours.

301 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132

Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove village walk

Neighborhood walks · Free to explore

Coconut Grove offers a village-scale walk through shops, dining streets and greenery. It is a good choice for a less hurried afternoon, especially if you pair a neighborhood stroll with a reserved lunch or dinner. The official district directory helps you choose a compact route instead of assuming every place with a Coconut Grove address is within easy walking distance.

Make time. 1–3 hours

Before you go. Start around Main Highway and Commodore Plaza, then choose one extra stop. Check parking and current district events; meals, shopping and admission to nearby historic sites cost separately.

Main Highway and Commodore Plaza, Coconut Grove, Miami, FL 33133

Coconut Grove

The Barnacle Historic State Park

Gardens & historic estates · Park entry fee

The Barnacle is a small historic waterfront park centered on the former home of Ralph Middleton Munroe. It adds a quieter heritage stop to a Coconut Grove walk and a different sense of scale from a major museum. The grounds and the historic house interior are separate parts of the visit, with the house accessible through guided tours.

Make time. 45–90 minutes

Before you go. The park currently closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as specified holidays. Check the official schedule, house-tour times and fees; there is no motor-vehicle entry into the park.

3485 Main Highway, Coconut Grove, FL 33133

Downtown Miami

Museum of Miami (formerly HistoryMiami)

Museums & culture · Check current admission

Museum of Miami, formerly HistoryMiami, provides context for the city beyond beaches and nightlife, with South Florida history and cultural programming. It is worth considering early in a trip if you want the neighborhoods you later visit to make more sense. An indoor museum visit can also be a practical way to keep a Downtown day useful when the weather interrupts outdoor plans.

Make time. 1.5–2 hours

Before you go. Check current exhibition access, opening days and admission on the museum website. The museum is on the plaza level of the Miami-Dade Cultural Center; follow its visitor directions rather than treating the street address as a ground-floor entrance.

101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130

Miami Beach

LIV Miami

Music & evenings · Event ticket · ages 21+

LIV is a nightclub option at Fontainebleau Miami Beach for travelers who want an event-led late night. Choose it based on the actual artist or program, the entry conditions and your budget rather than assuming all Miami nightlife is one interchangeable experience. A general-admission ticket and a table reservation have different terms and costs.

Make time. Plan around the booked event

Before you go. The Miami venue requires guests to be 21 or older with valid identification. Buy through official channels, check dress and ticket rules, and arrange your return transport before the evening.

4441 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33140

Shark Valley loop road beside Everglades wetlands

Everglades day trip

Shark Valley, Everglades National Park

Nature & day trips · Park entry fee; tours extra

Shark Valley is an Everglades day trip outside the urban Miami itinerary, with access to wetlands by tram, bicycle or walking. Choose it when wildlife and landscape are the priority, and keep enough time for travel and parking. It is not an airboat attraction: an airboat excursion from another operator is a separate activity at a different location.

Make time. Half day or longer, plus travel

Before you go. The National Park Service warns that on-demand return rides can be difficult here. Arrange round-trip transport, check park alerts and reserve a tram tour separately if needed. Keep the required distance from wildlife and never feed animals.

A better plan

Miami itineraries that leave room to enjoy the city

One day in Miami: choose a coast or culture route

For a first visit based in Miami Beach, begin with South Pointe Park and continue toward Lummus Park and the Art Deco streets. Keep the afternoon flexible: a guided architecture tour, The Bass or a slower lunch is more workable than adding several mainland districts. Finish with a reserved dinner, or a SoundScape event if the official calendar matches your date.

If you are staying Downtown, start with Frost Science or PAMM rather than trying to fully explore both. Continue to the bayfront, then choose Little Havana or Wynwood as your afternoon neighborhood. These are suggested planning routes, not timed tour packages: check opening days and use live travel estimates before making commitments.

Three days in Miami: a balanced itinerary

Give the coast a dedicated day. Walk the South Beach waterfront, explore Art Deco architecture and choose one extra stop such as Lincoln Road or the Botanical Garden. Keep the evening near your hotel unless there is a particular performance worth a mainland transfer.

Use a second day for the city: a Downtown museum in the morning, then Wynwood or the Design District. ICA Miami and public art fit naturally into a Design District afternoon; Little Havana is another choice if culture and food are your priority. Avoid forcing every district into one loop.

Make the remaining day a choice between Vizcaya and Coconut Grove, a Key Biscayne beach day, or a separate Everglades excursion. Shark Valley needs round-trip transport and a much larger travel allowance than a neighborhood walk. Book the anchor activity first, then select nearby dining from our Miami restaurant guide.

Things to do in South Beach and Miami Beach

South Beach is part of Miami Beach, which is a separate city across the bay from mainland Miami. That distinction matters when you book a hotel, compare travel times or decide whether an afternoon museum visit needs a transfer. The beach, Art Deco streets, Lincoln Road and SoundScape can form a coherent local itinerary.

For a classic introduction, choose the Lummus Park area and a separate South Pointe walk. For quieter green space, consider the Botanical Garden; for an indoor art stop, look at The Bass. A hotel beach club, a public beach visit and a nighttime venue each have different access and cost arrangements, so confirm the exact experience before paying.

Wynwood and the Design District: art, architecture and a considered afternoon

Wynwood and the Design District are distinct neighborhoods. Wynwood Walls is a ticketed destination within a larger street-art district; the Design District combines public installations, design-focused streets, shops and galleries. Each deserves a clear starting point, and they are not one continuous pedestrian attraction.

Choose Wynwood if your priority is murals and street-art energy. Choose the Design District if public art, architecture and an ICA Miami visit are the stronger fit. You can combine them, but use a transfer between districts and protect time for lunch. Late-day outdoor walks often feel more manageable than a long sequence of exposed midday stops.

Things to do in Little Havana

Use Calle Ocho around Domino Park as an anchor for a short cultural walk, coffee and a meal. The attraction is the neighborhood itself as much as any single venue. A guided food or heritage tour can add context, but independent visitors can also build a useful visit from landmarks, the Walk of Fame and a specific dining choice.

If you want live music, use Ball & Chain's actual calendar to shape the evening. Do not assume a daytime neighborhood walk and a late-night performance have the same experience or entry terms. Be considerate around residents and domino players, ask before taking close portraits and give yourself time to sit down rather than treating the area as a drive-through photo stop.

Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and the garden side of Miami

Coconut Grove is a useful base for a village walk and a meal, with The Barnacle offering a small historic waterfront stop. Vizcaya sits toward the northern side of the Grove area and is a separate ticketed estate visit. Think of these as compatible choices rather than assuming they all share the same entrance or are equally close on foot.

Farther south, Fairchild is a larger botanical outing, while Venetian Pool is a swimming destination with specific eligibility and admission rules. Give each a meaningful block of time and check the calendar before traveling. These are outdoor-heavy experiences, so weather, comfortable footwear and water can matter more than adding another attraction.

Free things to do in Miami without losing the day to logistics

A free city day can combine a public beach or park walk with ICA Miami, outdoor public art in the Design District, or the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Lincoln Road, Calle Ocho and Coconut Grove also offer public-space exploring without an attraction ticket. Scheduled SoundScape programs can add an evening option when your dates line up.

Free entry does not include every expense. Parking, public transport, food, rentals and tours remain separate, and an advertised museum promotion may have time or eligibility conditions. Keep your free stops geographically close: saving an admission fee is less useful if repeated transfers consume the budget and the afternoon.

Things to do in Miami with kids

Frost Science is a strong indoor-led anchor with aquarium exhibits and a planetarium, while Zoo Miami suits a larger outdoor family day. South Pointe has a playground beside the waterfront; Crandon Park is another beach-day option. Choose based on your children's ages, energy and interests rather than trying to finish a list of attractions.

Venetian Pool has minimum age and height requirements, so it is not an option for every young child. Check stroller access, accessible routes, changing facilities and the policies of your chosen venue in advance. A slower morning, one substantial attraction and a planned meal usually leave more room to enjoy the day than several bookings with tight transfer windows.

Things to do in Miami when it rains

For an indoor plan, start with Frost Science, PAMM, ICA Miami, The Bass or Museum of Miami (formerly HistoryMiami). Choose a museum that is open on your visit day and reserve admission where needed. A theater or concert at the Arsht Center can also anchor an evening, but it depends on a scheduled performance rather than general walk-in access.

Several attractions mix indoor and outdoor areas. PAMM's galleries differ from its terrace, ICA's exhibitions differ from its sculpture garden, and Vizcaya's main house differs from its gardens. Do not count a public beach, open-air pedestrian street, pool or exposed mural walk as a reliable storm alternative. Give transfers and covered arrival points some thought as well.

Things to do in Miami at night and date ideas

For a planned Miami evening, choose an Arsht Center performance, a scheduled SoundScape WALLCAST, live music on Calle Ocho or an event at LIV. These cover very different budgets and atmospheres. Book for the specific program and venue, then arrange dinner and return transport around that choice.

For a romantic daytime outing, Vizcaya, a garden visit or a coastal walk can be a better fit than a crowded late night. Pair the outing with a restaurant that matches your neighborhood and budget. Outdoor plans should stay within posted opening hours; a sunset idea is not a reason to assume a park remains open after dark.

Miami beaches, nature escapes and an Everglades day trip

Choose Key Biscayne for a beach-led day at Crandon or Bill Baggs; choose Oleta River for an activity-led outing such as paddling or cycling. Deering Estate offers heritage and natural landscapes farther south. These places are different trips with their own access rules, so plan around one primary destination instead of linking them simply because they are all outdoors.

Shark Valley is a separate Everglades excursion outside the urban core. Park entry and a tram booking are different purchases, and the National Park Service specifically cautions about obtaining on-demand return rides. Arrange a round trip, check alerts and avoid a tight evening reservation back in Miami. Wildlife viewing is dependent on conditions, not a guaranteed encounter.

Before you go: a practical Miami travel checklist

Use the geography before the attraction list

Choose one cluster for each part of the day: South Beach, Downtown, Wynwood and Design District, Little Havana, or the Grove and Gables. Causeway crossings and longer southern or northern outings need a transfer allowance. Use live map estimates for your departure time rather than treating a fixed drive-time claim as a promise.

Buy the right ticket for the right experience

Use each venue's official visitor page to check the exact date, inclusions, cancellation terms and entry rules. General admission, a guided tour, a special program and a private booking can be separate products. Avoid paying for an excursion before you understand its meeting point and return arrangements.

Keep a weather alternative

Put outdoor walking and exposed gardens in a comfortable part of the day, and keep an indoor museum option available. Follow official park and venue alerts during severe weather. Shade, drinking water, comfortable shoes and a slower pace can make an ordinary visit considerably better.

Check accessibility for your actual route

A venue may offer accessible facilities while a particular activity, historic interior, beach approach or nature route has different conditions. Use the official accessibility information and contact the venue for your specific needs. Confirm equipment availability and any advance reservation requirements before traveling.

Questions about visiting Miami

What are the best things to do in Miami for a first visit?

A useful introduction combines South Beach and its Art Deco streets, Little Havana, and either Wynwood or a Downtown museum. Choose based on your hotel location and available days. Vizcaya, Key Biscayne and the Everglades are worthwhile alternatives that need their own time rather than being added to an already crowded day.

What can you do in Miami for free?

Consider public beach and park walks, ICA Miami, public art in the Design District, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and neighborhood walks on Lincoln Road or Calle Ocho. SoundScape has free programming on scheduled dates. Parking, transport, dining and paid extras remain separate.

What are good things to do in Miami with kids?

Frost Science, Zoo Miami, South Pointe Park and a planned Crandon beach day are options for different interests and weather. Check the actual age, height and admission rules for each venue. Venetian Pool requires children to be at least 3 years old and 38 inches tall.

What are the best things to do in Miami when it rains?

Choose an open indoor venue such as Frost Science, PAMM, ICA Miami, The Bass or Museum of Miami (formerly HistoryMiami). A scheduled Arsht Center performance can work for an evening. Confirm opening days and distinguish indoor galleries from outdoor terraces, gardens and park areas.

What can you do in Miami at night?

Build the evening around a specific performance, live-music program, scheduled SoundScape event or nightclub booking. The Arsht Center, Ball & Chain and LIV offer different settings. LIV Miami is for guests 21 and older; confirm the rules and arrange return transport for your chosen venue.

Is Wynwood Walls free?

The enclosed Wynwood Walls attraction is ticketed. Public streets and some neighborhood murals are outside that attraction. Check the official ticket page before visiting and avoid confusing a free neighborhood walk with admission to the curated Walls experience.

How many days do you need in Miami?

One day can give you a focused coastal or cultural introduction. Three days allow more room for the beach, city neighborhoods and a separate garden, Key Biscayne or Everglades outing. Your hotel location, interests and transport affect what is realistic; there is no single itinerary that suits every trip.

Are Miami and Miami Beach the same place?

No. Miami Beach is a separate city across the bay from mainland Miami, and South Beach is part of Miami Beach. This matters for accommodation, maps and transfer planning. Check the actual address instead of assuming every attraction described as Miami is nearby.

Do you need a car to visit Miami attractions?

Several neighborhood clusters can be explored on foot after you arrive, while Downtown has the Metromover as another option. Key Biscayne, northern and southern nature destinations, and an Everglades outing need more transport planning. Arrange a reliable round trip to remote places rather than assuming an on-demand return ride will be available.

What are romantic things to do in Miami?

Consider a Vizcaya or garden visit, a coastal walk within posted hours, or a performance followed by a reserved dinner. Choose the setting and neighborhood that suit both people, keep room for weather changes and use the restaurant guide to compare nearby dining options.

How this city guide was selected

This is an editorial selection of places and experiences across Greater Miami, Miami Beach and the clearly identified Everglades day-trip area. It is organized to help readers plan by geography, interests and access, rather than presented as a measured numerical ranking. Selection includes cultural venues, public spaces, family attractions and nature destinations; businesses did not pay for inclusion in this guide.

Descriptions draw on the official websites of venues, public park authorities, the National Park Service and Greater Miami's official tourism organization. They are original planning guidance, not claims of personal visits or independent facility inspections. Suggested visit durations and route combinations are editorial estimates, not opening hours, travel-time guarantees or bookable tour packages.

Free-entry labels refer to the described general visit or public space, subject to current notices. Transport, parking, food, rentals, tours and special events may cost separately. Use the linked visitor page for live availability, opening days, accessibility, age limits and the complete price before booking.
